Garage Door Maintenance
Here are some simple maintenance instructions on how to protect and extend the life of your garage door.
If your garage door is noisy, loud, or rollers bind, please lubricate your garage door. WD-40 is only recommended to clean before lubricating your garage door. WD-40 will only work temporarily and tends to dry quicker, especially in hot conditions.
Your garage door should be fully closed before maintenance begins.
Tracks and Rollers:
White lithium grease or silicone spray is recommended for your rollers/bearings. Please lube all your steel rollers. This will allow your door to come down smoother, preventing binding or skipping.
Hardware: Springs, Hinges, Cable Pulleys, Chain:
Silicone spray or any approved lubricant for garage doors can be used also for lubrication on all garage door moving parts. Spray all moving parts: hinges, torsion spring at top, cable pulleys and chain drive to the opener. To prevent from over spraying onto your garage door, you can place a piece of cardboard as a background.
Operate your garage door. Let it run up and down a couple of times so the lubrication can spread evenly.
We recommend maintenance at least every 4 – 6 months, or once garage door becomes noisy. Texas has very hot summers, and heat can quickly dissipate lubricant.
